Notable Albums of the 00′s

27 Nov

This isn’t an exhaustive list, but I’ve picked out some of my favourite albums of the past decade and decided to share! A little inspiration for you all, if you’ve not picked up any of these I suggest you give them a listen – if only because you’re after a new perspective on some nostalgic stuff.

Jens Lekman – Night Falls Over Kortedala “Take no heroes, only inspiration.”

The National – Alligators Boxer’ only just missed out here.

The Knife – Silent Shout The Knife take everything fizzy that came before, toss it over their shoulder and say ‘fuck that’. Lovely, dark, ambient trance music.

Thrice – Beggars The best band in the world. They just are.

No Made Sense – The Epillanic Choragi How these Reading metallers aren’t superstars yet I’ll never know.

Spoon – Kill The Moonlight This is about as good as neo-garage gets.

Brand New – The Devil And God Are Raging Inside Me Again, ‘Daisy’ only just misses out here… Both are amazing rock listens though.

The Postal Service – Give Up Couldn’t go for a decade-oriented entry without The Postal Service. I’ve nearly worn out this vinyl now.

The XX – XX Newcomers? Certainly. One of the best debut albums ever? Yes.

Muse – Black Holes And Revelations No denying it, this was a career-defining album for Muse. Social paranoia, politics, romance… all the bases covered.

The Libertines – The Libertines Whatever your feelings about the members, there’s no denying that this paid serious homage to the garage rock revival.
